Christmas Kindness

I want to send a thank you out to the nice lady in McDonald's who shared her 'buy one get one free' coffee coupon (this was my first trial of McD's hot chocolate, and it was quite nice) with me the other day. I really appreciate the thought and hope that everyone who has one of the coupons, which you can get using the link below, to share. If you don't have a friend around, ask someone in the restaurant, pick one up for a coworker or get one for the man sitting on the curb outside. Spread the cheer.

Salvation Army deals

My hubby and I headed to the Salvation Army 1/2 price sale today to try to find him some shirts and a winter coat. We failed on the shirts, but came out happy anyway. We found a light weight 100% merino sweater and a full length wool and cashmere coat. He has been looking for a long wool coat for ages, so he is really pleased. It is a little large on him, but nothing a little inventive button moving and arm hemming won't fix up.

Cost - sweater $3, coat $17.50!

I'm in the process of trying to get pictures, but my camera and computer are not currently talking. Will update with photos when I can.

Let's get started

I have been a thrifty person my entire life. My father's not so joking nickname was Scrooge. It is a way of living that has never left me, though at times I have found myself slipping into the immediate gratification lifestyle. My current interest in thrift is not new, but it is going to be more focused.

My youngest child started all day kindergarten last year and I found myself at a crossroads. I have always wanted to be able to be a stay-at-home mom and we have been able to make it work up until now. Now, though, with the girls' extra curricular activities and the increased cost of living, we are finding things a little tight. I considered working outside the home full time, but have decided that I am going to try things that are a bit more flexible so that I can continue being around for the girls.

What I'd like to get out of this blog is someplace for me to post my ideas & my questions. I'm hoping for some feedback, support and new ideas. Let's see where this leads us.
